Unlike other fundamental necessities, such as eating and drinking, breathing is something that is unconsciously performed by the body constantly, without a need for conscious action. But unlike other unconscious functions (like our heartbeat), we do have the power to influence our breathing.
There’s a reason that they say something is ‘as natural as breathing’. Without even realising it (or even spending much effort on it!), we breathe in and out up to almost 30,000 times a day! But because it comes so naturally to us, we can sometimes underestimate and even dismiss the power of this incredible tool at our disposal. So in this week’s episode of the podcast, we’re making the unconscious conscious, and harnessing the full spectrum of our breathing ability. Because breathing is so critical for our survival, it’s linked with hundreds of other physiological functions in our bodies (including some you might never have even considered!).
